A Time to Listen

Saint Joseph only spoke one word in the Bible. In Matthew 1:25 it says, “He had no relations with her until she bore a son, and he named him Jesus.” Jesus is the only word he’s recorded saying. And yet God spoke to him more than most people in scripture. He’s one of the few people in the Gospels that God sends direct instructions to as he made important decisions about Jesus and Mary. He was a man of listening

Why is it that when people talk to God we call it prayer, but when people hear God speak we call it crazy? In the conversation that is prayer, the top priority shouldn’t be what you have to say. It should be listening to what God has to say. But how do you do that? Wake up every day and read the Gospel of the day from Mass. Then ask God what he’s saying to YOUR heart through His word.

If you make quiet space in your heart, that’s not crowded with what YOU have to say, you might hear what he has to say.
